IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM DEAN ERIN DALY

On Tuesday, January 20, Widener Law Delaware celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy will honor Widener’s Youth Court League, the first student organization to receive the Martin Luther King Service Award.  Please come to the Vale Moot Courtroom on Tuesday at 5pm to celebrate and honor the work our students are doing in middle and high schools in Chester and Wilmington.

The event also kicks off Widener’s Semester of Service.

With the supervision of Widener faculty (Professors Catania, Howe-Barksdale, May, and Turezyn), students in the Youth Court League train the school students to act as attorneys, judges and jurors in matters involving their peers who are accused of minor school offenses.  The program is designed to foster leadership skills and exert positive peer pressure on students who need encouragement in finding the right path, all while diverting low-level offenses from overburdened school disciplinary systems.  It is a model of restorative justice, where the emphasis is on repairing harm caused by wrongdoing and restoring the community.

Please make every effort to attend this program to help honor your classmates and the work they are doing to promote justice and support students in local schools.

Thanks,

Erin Daly
