Gay Youth Vigil Oct. 13 at Widener University (Chester Campus)

The LGBT Student Association and Human Sexuality Graduate Programs at Widener University are sponsoring a vigil on Oct. 13, 7:30-8:30 p.m. to remember LGBT youth who have fallen victim to anti-gay harassment, bullying, depression and suicide. Dr. Philip Rutter, assistant professor in the Human Sexuality Graduate Programs, will share his research on risk factors for LGB youth suicide and help enlighten participants as to the signals that may indicate a loved one is suicidal. In addition, select students will share personal struggles of growing up LGB in an attempt to build support for today’s gay youth so that they may feel accepted and protected. A candle-lighting ceremony will follow. All are invited to attend to show support for the LGBT community.

Wednesday, Oct. 13

7:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Widener University’s Kirkbride Hall, Rm 235

Walnut and E. 17th streets

Chester, PA 19013

Details: The program will move from Kirkbride Hall to outside of the building at approximately 8:15 p.m. on the Kapelski Mall, where all in attendance will light a candle in remembrance of the gay youth who have passed and share hope for a brighter tomorrow.
