H1N1 Flu Update September 1, 2009
Posted by admin on Sep 1, 2009
The CDC has indicated that universities should expect wider transmission of the H1N1 flu during the 2009-2010 academic year. Their recommendations include the following:
- Individuals experiencing flu like symptoms should not attend classes until 24 hours after their fever resolves, and should isolate themselves from contact with others for this period.
- If possible, on campus residents should go home for care during their illness.
- Residents who are unable to return home should establish a “flu buddy scheme” by pairing up with another student to provide care if one becomes ill.
- At risk individuals (those with underlying health conditions such as asthma or diabetes) should seek medical attention promptly if they have flu symptoms.
- Individuals are urged to receive vaccination for the seasonal flu.
