Solos on the Rise
The small and solo firm sections of state bar associations are reporting a rise in membership based on the number of law school graduates starting out as solos. In addition, lawyers are leaving large firms and starting their own practices citing the ability to charge lower rates that appeal to more clients and a better quality of life. This may be an attractive option to many, but be forewarned. Before choosing this option, make sure that you have considered all of the financial and personal costs of building a small business, obtaining clients and providing quality legal service. A great first step would be to find an attorney who can provide you with insight on the process.
