Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles To Be Produced in Dover, Delaware

In October, I was invited to attend the press announcement concerning the re-opening  of the former General Motors plant in Dover, Delaware to allow for the production of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.Vice President Joseph Biden, Delaware’s Governor Jack Markell and other important community leaders were in attendance. I received the invitation as I am a member of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce.

The plant was purchase by Fisker Automotive, a California-based auto producer.

VP Joe Biden Honored as a History Maker by the Delaware Historical Society

Ruth Ann Minner and Dean Linda AmmonsToday, Thursday, May 7th, a group of us (Vice Dean Patrick Kelly, and Professors Wesley Oliver, James May, John Culhane, Jean Eggen, Susan King, and Robert Hayman)  attended the Delaware Historical Society’s 2009 History Makers Award Luncheon, where Vice President and former Widener Law adjunct Joseph R. Biden, Jr. was honored as the third recipient of the History Makers Award.

The event took place at the Chase Riverfront Center, and the Vice President took time to chat with guests in the lobby before the luncheon. Valerie Biden Owens spoke, giving her brother a wonderful introduction before Anne Canby, the president of the board of the Delaware Historical Society, presented the award.

Widener Law group at the HSD eventThe Vice President gave a riveting speech on how privileged he is to serve in this capacity and how he is more optimistic now then he was when he started more than thirty years ago.

There were hundreds in attendance and I had the opportunity to spend some time with a number of important Delawareans, including former Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Minner.
